I realized the moment I fell into the fissure that the Book would not be destroyed as I had planned. It continued falling into that starry expanse, of which I had only a fleeting glimpse. I have tried to speculate where it might have landed, but I must admit that such conjecture is futile. Still, questions about whose hands might one day hold my Myst book are unsettling to me. I know my apprehensions might never be allayed, and so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written. -- Atrus

Mysterium 2014

I did not go to Mysterium, but I have collected information from those who had!  Although I am sure everyone already knows everything I am about to post.

For recordings of the live streams: Draaloff very kindly supplied these.  View here: Mysterium 2014

I wasn't there for the live stream from Cyan headquarters because I was wandering around the New York Renaissance Faire, losing my voice due to cheering for my knight haha!  But I did watch the first recording (almost all of it) and it has some very, very cool information.

Before we get to that, however, there are some pictures here courtesy of Visian_Thistle.  There were some pretty amazing cosplays going on.  Gehn costume, Esher, Catherine, Atrus from Exile, I believe I saw a Saavedro, Yeesha.  There are some pictures of original artifacts at the Cyan headquarters (which freakin' ROCKS!).

Here is a blog of updates and details from the convention.

Amid all of this, the really WOW OMG stuff is:

  • Cyan released some images from Obduction with the promise more is coming.  Check on their Facebook page, or Google+
  • MOULa updates: more content is coming!!  Cyan has been working with ~11 fans on content additions, including Myst V Ages, and a few other goodies.  Read for yeself from Chloe Rhodes' post on the MO:UL forums:

The Ages that are in the trailer, for those curious are:

Maintairner’s Nexus
Descent/Great Shaft
Fehnir’s House
An updated version of Bob Lishman’s Sonavio for MOULa

In addition we’re working on the overall Nexus project to get fane Ages into MOULa

While some of the stuff we are working on is related to Myst V, it should be pointed out that this isn’t a “conversion” of Myst V files but a literal remake of them from the very bottom, so the look may stay the same in some of the Ages and may change in others depending on how the Age was supposed to look for Uru, not Myst V.

Check out more about this on the DIRT site.  See the trailer here.
  • And finally, for some REALLY FANTASTIC news, Cyan just released to the fans all the hitherto unreleased Uru concept art, available for download from their Dropbox link here: Myst Online Unreleased Concept Art.
I've been dealing with a long bout of insomnia so I put it to good use and compiled all the images into a PDF art book for myself which, like my Kings Chronology booklet I made, I intend to print and bind.  Ha!  It's so beautiful!  On Facebook there was a brief and very exciting exchange where one fan voiced his despair that we will never see these Ages to which a Cyan employee responded: "an announcement about that coming soon."  Well ain't that the bees knees!  So many delectable treats are coming toward us full speed.

A couple other things:
  • Those who ordered their Mysterium t-shirts from Square Market will be receiving confirmation emails soon whereupon these fab shirts will be mailed to us (I hope I get mine for my birthday coming up!).
  • AND, Heather Larkin who has been illustrating a stunning graphic novel version of the Book of Atrus (and publishing it here) has printed copies which she was selling at Mysterium and which you can also order here for $15.  I'm so happy about this and as soon as I get some monies I will be ordering!  If you haven't looked into it yet, you really ought because it's really well done.
Next year Mysterium will be in Boston, MA.  Perhaps I will go...if I'm not too freaked out about the idea of conventions.  I don't like group activities haha!!  And I'm pretty shy also, so I'd probably be a sourpuss lurking in the corner and trying to hide √† la Harpo Marx.  (Awww I love Harpo!  He's so sweet, adorable, and hilarious :D)

WHAT?! Shy??!!! That's the first time I heard this.....but, yes, conventions are strange places

Yeah I am totally shy meeting crowds of new people! Hundreds of people go to this convention and I have no one to go with me so I'd be so scared and alone haha womp womp!

(Please excuse this random stranger commenting on your blog. I was googling for posts about Mysterium and happened upon yours. I hope you don't mind)

Please don't worry about being overwhelmed with strange people at Mysterium! There will probably be under 100 people next year (this year was abnormal, it's generally been closer to 30-50 in recent years). It's much more of a family reunion than a standard convention, and people are very understanding about not being super extroverted at people if they don't want.

Heek, I'm a generally shy/introverted person, but I loved Mysterium so much that I ended up becoming a part of the committee (*is committee chair for Boston next year*)

Ok, I will stop randomly commenting on your blog now.

Oh wow thanks for commenting!! And by all means feel free to do so if/when ever you wish. It's It's not intended to be private haha -- I mean it IS posted on the internet for everyone to see after all. And it is for lovers of Myst to enjoy and participate if they wish, if they don't fall asleep during my musings on the games.

I am becoming more and more convinced to go to next year's, but it also depends on if I am not in a state of intense panic over my oral examinations next September haha!

Okie dokie, just being careful. :D

Well yay! I hope we see you there. I have a vague idea of what you mean - I was in the middle of my undergrad senior thesis somewhat falling apart when I help run Mysterium in 2011. I found that the intense weekend of like-minded nerds was extremely refreshing and gave an energy boost for the project afterwards.

Thanks for sharing my Mysterium live stream recording! It makes me really happy knowing other people enjoyed them.

Pas du tout! It was really great of you to take the time to put it together for those who could not attend. So thank you very much!
